Anyone involved in animal agriculture might want to be in front of his or her television tonight or have their DVR set to record what is certain to be a difficult hour of discussion about beef safety on "Larry King Live."

The American Meat Institute (AMI) reported that the segment is being prompted by a recent lengthy, New York Times front page story about e. coli, beef inspection and a woman who had a particularly virulent response to 0157:H7 exposure in a hamburger ("E. Coli Path Shows Flaws in Beef Inspection," New York Times, 10/4/09).

Larry King's website promotes tonight's segment asking, "could your diet be killing you?" King's show airs (Monday, 10/12/09) on CNN at 9:00 p.m. EDT, 7:00 MDT. Scheduled guests include: J. Patrick Boyle, president of AMI, Elsa Murano, former USDA under secretary for food safety and Bill Marler, an attorney involved in food safety cases.
